Rally: User unable to create Defect/Userstory

Issue/Introduction

We have a user, with edit access to a project, who is getting an error message when attempting to create defects.  I can't figure out what the error message means.  He is populating all required fields, and adding the defect to the project where he has access.  Can you please help us figure out why he can't add defects?  I've included a screenshot.  Thank you

Error: Not authorized to update

 

Resolution

This can happen if the user is trying to parent this defect to a User Story that exists in a project where they only have Viewer permissions.

If this is being created as part of a Test Case then it could be something that is happening automatically if the Test Case has a Work Product of a User Story in a different project.
