Issue/Introduction

Do metric clamps apply to all types of metrics or only numeric ones that will be stored in Smartstor, specifically these clamps:

introscope.enterprisemanager.agent.metrics.limit
introscope.enterprisemanager.metrics.live.limit
introscope.enterprisemanager.metrics.historical.limit

I could expect introscope.enterprisemanager.metrics.historical.limit to only apply to metrics held in Smartstor and assume that is only numeric metrics.

Resolution

String metrics are taken into account for the agent clamp limits. i.e even when the agent no longer reports a large number of string metrics because it had once reported them they are included in the historical metric count - despite the fact that string metric data is not persisted.

The reason for this is that whilst the metric data values are not persisted the meta data is still held for these metrics so it is unique metric names that the count and clamps refer to.

The string metrics however are NOT taken into consideration for the Enterprise Manager historical metric clamp introscope.enterprisemanager.metrics.historical.limit as they do not affect the overall storage
