'Failed to Retrieve Method Information' error when attempting dynamic instrumentation

Issue/Introduction

Getting an error 'Failed to Retrieve Method Information' when attempting to use dynamic instrumentation, in the transaction trace feature in the workstation. There error occurs when a component is selected in the trace view whilst the transaction trace is still running and the option 'View all called methods ...' is selected from the pop-up menu

Environment

Release : 10.7 / 20.4

Component : APM Agents

Cause

The agent being traced was from release 20.4 and the Enterprise Manager and workstation were from release 10.7.

The Dynamic instrumentation feature is not included as part of the Next Generation APM release (20.x) - an alternative mechanism is planned for the future however as it was not initially expected that Next Generation agents would be used with 10.7 Enterprise Managers this apparent discrepancy was not highlighted in the documentation

Resolution

If Dynamic instrumentation feature is required then it is currently necessary to use a 10.7 agent

There are plans to provide an alternate mechanism for this functionality in future releases.
