S0C4 abend in OPSNMG

Issue/Introduction

We had the following dump taken by console:

EA794I SVC DUMP HAS CAPTURED: 899 DUMPID=001 REQUESTED BY JOB (*MASTER*) DUMP TITLE=COMPON=CNZ,COMPID=SC1CK,ISSUER=CNZMIREC,MODULE=CNZS1XIT+22F831DA,ABEND=S00C4,REASON=00000011


We sent the dump to IBM and they noticed the abend occurred in OPSNMG.

Resolution

The ABEND in OPSNMG was due to the automation that was running (for a message event) in another address space. OPS was trying to issue a message but was unable to do so based on the state of the address space.

This can occur when automation is running in an address space that is abending or short on storage.
In this case OPS is just a victim of an abend occurred at another task.
