Issue/Introduction

One of several systems started reporting  ACF0B908 ACF2, INSTALLATION NOT RECORDING SMF NUMBER 230 and after some time followed by ACF0B900 ACF2, SMF JOURNALING HAS BEEN RE-ESTABLISHED. What is the cause of these messages?

Resolution

The ACF0B908 msg is a direct result from receiving an RC36 from the SMFWTM (SVC 83) macro(The SMFEWTM macro verifies that SMF recording is active and allows the issuer to branch directly to SMF.), indicating "The record was not written because the record specified is not currently being recorded." Once that is received, ACF2 does not re-issue the message on subsequent failures, and issue the ACF0B900 once the failures cease.

Recommend checking system RMF(Resource Measurement Facility)  recording, if both SMF and RMF recording have stopped it could be caused by errors attempting to change the SMF recording options.
