Issue/Introduction

Encryption Management Sever allows you to create mail rules that send a copy of a message to an alternate archive server. However, such messages cannot be sent to mail servers using STARTTLS.

Warning messages similar to this appear in the Mail log:

Failed to archive message <<<4f56173eb78e0458baaf2ea2c3ca710f[email protected]>>, adding to archive mail queue.

Exception while re-trying copy of message <<[email protected]>> to smtp server archive.example.net: SMTP MAIL FROM failed: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first

Environment

Symantec Encryption Management Server release 3.3.2 MP13 and above.

Resolution

To workaround this issue, do not use STARTTLS when sending to archive servers.
