Issue/Introduction

Users are no longer able to connect Tableau desktop with the PPM OData V2 endpoint. The following errors noted while connecting to the OData feed and while testing certain functions like extract ,etc.

An error occurred while communicating with OData

Unable to connect to the server. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Error Code: 20B40A5E

Bad OData Format. Make sure you are using a URL that points to a valid OData Source.

The table "DWH_INV_INVESTMENT" does not exist.

The login error can be bypassed on second attempt but the error bounces back while trying to extract table data.

Environment

Release : Clarity PPM 15.8

Component : Data Warehouse OData Service

Cause

The issue relates to a recent compatibility issue introduced by change of ODATA drivers in Tableau desktop Version: 2020.2.The original compatibility prescribed for PPM clarity was ODATA feed V3, and it was working with V2 till the newer Tableau desktop got released.

The fix ideally needs to come from the Tableau side and there is not much scope to fix the issue from clarity PPM code. The same ODATA V2 or V4  feed from Broadcom testing and customer feedback works good for MS power BI and MS Excel.

Resolution

The issue needs to be reported with Tableau support. We had few PPM customers report this issue on Tableau communities.. Here is a link to one such thread.
