Symantec is committed to providing a highly-scalable and reliable, cloud-based, strong authentication service. As part of this plan, all VIP Services will be migrating from AWS to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) between 31 October 2020 and the beginning of 2021. This article contains information our customers need to ensure a transparent and seamless migration. Many months of extensive planning and preparation have gone into this move. To that end, our goal is a successful migration with zero service interruption.

WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING?

PHASE 1 (pre-migration readiness): All VIP customers must take action by October 31, 2020.

PHASE 2 (actual migration): GCP migrations begin November 15, 2020 and will be complete by March 21, 2021.

WHEN WILL MY VIP ACCOUNT BE MIGRATED?

All customers will be notified via email 2 weeks prior to their migration wave. For example, if your migration is between November 15th - 30th, you will receive an email on November 1st. Other important updates and reminders emails will continue until the migration is complete.

WHO WILL RECEIVE THE NOTIFICATION EMAILS?

Emails are delivered to the technical and billing contacts listed on the 'account' tab within VIP Manager, and to Super Administrators (or those with equivalent permissions). Please verify this information by logging into your VIP Manager account. If necessary, submit a request to update VIP Manager contact information.

WHAT EXACTLY WILL CHANGE?

After your VIP account is migrated, VIP URLs will seamlessly begin resolving to GCP IP addresses. All VIP Services in the cloud and on-prem VIP software will continue to function normally. 

SHOULD I TEST READINESS FOR THIS MIGRATION?

Yes, you need to prepare and test your network to allow for new IP addresses. See Testing your VIP environment for the Migration of VIP Services Platform to Google Cloud Services for testing procedures.  

WHAT IF I LOSE CONNECTIVITY DURING PHASE 2 OF THE MIGRATION?

Refer to the Configuration Requirements for the Migration of VIP Services Platform to Google Cloud Services and Testing your VIP environment for the Migration of VIP Services Platform to Google Cloud Services.

If connectivity to VIP is lost, contact VIP Technical Support for assistance. Have your support ID and VIP Jurisdiction Hash ready when calling.

HOW CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?

ADDITIONAL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Will TEST, TRIAL, or non-production instances be migrated to GCP?

If your organization owns a VIP TEST or TRIAL accounts, these will be migrated on October 1, 2020. Log into you VIP account(s) and verify that Account Usage shows as Test, and your production Account Usage shows as Production. If not, please contact your VIP account rep or submit a request here to have it changed.

Where will the VIP service be hosted?

After the migration is complete, the VIP service will continue to be hosted in the United States.  

What can I do if I cannot whitelist domains?

See Configuration Requirements for the Migration of VIP Services Platform to Google Cloud Services for IP netblocks that you must add to your firewall to allow outbound connectivity to the GCP-hosted platform. Do not remove existing netblocks until the migration is complete. 

Will the service capabilities change as a result of this migration?

There will be no functional changes to VIP. All services will continue to function seamlessly throughout this migration.

Are there changes to my Service Level Agreement?

No. Your existing Service Level Agreement applies to the new environment.

How will I know when my service was migrated?

The migration date and time for each product VIP account will be emailed to the technical and corporate contacts listed within VIP Manager. Once migrated, VIP URLs will resolve to IP addresses within the GCP netblocks. 

Can I opt-out of the migration?

No. This move is a mandatory migration.
