Issue/Introduction

We would like to know if it is possible to install Spectrum on a subinterface using a static ip address.

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:18:3E:A7:BC:B9
          inet addr:10.204.148.89  Bcast:10.204.149.255  Mask:255.255.254.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:65313603 errors:0 dropped:28 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:50312215 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:15314073786 (14604.6 Mb)  TX bytes:15405504285 (14691.8 Mb)

eth0:spec Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:18:3E:A7:BC:B9
          inet addr:10.204.148.87  Bcast:10.204.149.255  Mask:255.255.254.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1

Environment

Release : 10.4.1

Component : Spectrum CORE

Cause

Spectrum will bind processd to the physical NIC ip address while Spectrum processes like LocServer will bind to the ip it was installed on.  This will create problems and Spectrum will not function properly.

tcp        0      0 10.204.148.87:56063    10.204.148.89:49228    ESTABLISHED 19800/LocServer
tcp        0      0 10.204.148.89:49228    10.204.148.87:56063    ESTABLISHED 19787/processd

Resolution

It is not possible or recommended to install Spectrum on a subinterface and should only be installed on a static ip address that is from the NIC.
