TLMS Tape Management

Issue/Introduction

Trying to run the TLMS VMF index rebuild that normally runs in minutes is running for hours.

Environment

Release : 14.0

Component : CA TLMS Tape Management

Cause

TLMSVSUT DRAMATICALLY INCREASED IN ELAPSED TIME

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

In TLMS release 14.0, the execution time and EXCP count needed to rebuild

VMF Index will dramatically increase.

SYMPTOMS:

The execution time and EXCP count for the CATVMFXI CONVERT job is

dramatically increased.

IMPACT:

Long execution time and possible S522/S622 ABENDs.  If the current VMF

INDEX is generating message CAT2289E PUT error, the VMF INDEX is out of

extents and will need to be deleted and reallocated.

Resolution

1. Apply PTF SO04840.

2. Execute the CATVMFXO procedure with the appropriate JCL overrides and required alterations to the IDCAMS control statements.

3. Prepare the CONVERT command as input to the VMFINDEO.SYSIN DD statement.
Starting in position 1, the format of the command is
CONVERT

Additional Information

With TLMS 14.0, the VMF index file can be created or updated while TLMS is active using the CATVMFXI procedure. If the VMF index file is created or updated using the CATVMFXI procedure while TLMS is inactive, both the elapsed time and EXCP count will be dramatically increased compared to previous releases of TLMS. If the VMF index file needs to be created    or updated when TLMS is inactive the new CATVMFXO procedure may be used.
