Issue/Introduction

When creating or exporting an environment using the Identity Manager (IDM) Management Console on Linux-based servers, the process may fail with a "Permission denied" error when attempting to write temporary files (e.g., Myupload_###########_#############.tmp).

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x

Cause

The user account running the JBoss/Wildfly service lacks sufficient write permissions to the designated temporary directory, preventing the application from saving the necessary files required for environment creation or export.

Resolution

  1. Identify the temporary directory used by the JBoss/Wildfly service.
  2. Ensure the user account running the application service has full ownership/write permissions for this directory.
  3. If permissions are restricted, update the ownership using the following command: chown -R <service_user>:<service_group> /path/to/temp/directory
  4. Avoid running the application service as 'root' for security compliance.
  5. Restart the JBoss/Wildfly service.
