Issue/Introduction

It may happen that there is a confusion between "memtrace" option in an Agent ini file and the "Memory Trace" option available through Automic Web Interface (on Agents and on AE - WP/CP).

The memtrace option allows the agent to Write in the memory at startup.

The memory trace option in AWI is meant to be used in combination with the Trace Search Key option : when doing so, the trace will be written in the memory until the string you are looking for is found.

Once the key is found, a single memory trace file will be generated and the tracing will stop.

If the memtrace option is set in the ini file without using the Trace Search Key, then the tracing will be done directly in multiple files (which may generate many huge files).

Please note that the Memory Trace option, when set on the Automation Engine (Administration Mode/Automation Engine Management/Right click on a WP or CP/Advanced option) cannot be unchecked unless a specific trace is selected (TCP/IP, DB, ...).

This is detailled on the Doc below : https://docs.automic.com/documentation/webhelp/english/AA/12.3/DOCU/12.3/Automic%20Automation%20Guides/help.htm#AWA/AdministrationPerspective/AG_Agents_Tracing.htm?Highlight=memory%20trace
