Issue/Introduction
A couple projects got unchecked for synchronization.
When they were recynced, the job created duplicate initiatives in Agile Central/Rally for each project.
We checked and see that the projects are linked to new initiatives
Example: Previously the project was linked to I02, but it is now linked to a newly created initiative I92
.
Environment
Release : All Supported Releases
Component : CA PPM SAAS RALLY
Resolution
Delete the incorrect Initiative ID and Initiative External ID for the project in Clarity PPM then replace with the correct / previous IDs
Tip: In case the issue reoccurs, enable auditing in Administration->Studio->Objects->Product->Audit Trail for both changes and deletion of the attribue: Initiative ID
This will help more easily copy and paste the Initiative ID from the audit tab of the project later on
It can also help in identifying root cause - audit will show who made the change and when
These fields are read only out of the box, so it's recommended to use caution if leaving the fields editable after the steps below are done if users will have access to editing these fields
To make the fields editable:
In Clarity PPM go to Administration->Objects->Project
Click on the Portfolio Item External ID (Initiative external ID in earlier releases) attribute
Uncheck 'Read only'
Click Save
Repeat steps 1-4 for Initiative ID
Go to Home->Projects
Click on Options->Configure
Add 'Portfolio Item External ID' and 'Initiative External ID' to Selected Columns
Click Save
From the List Column Section tab drop down, select Fields
Click on the properties icon for Portfolio Item External ID
Check 'Allow editing'
Save changes
Repeat steps 10-13 for Initiative ID
Double click on the Portfolio Item External ID for the project you want to sync to an initiative
Add the Portfolio Item External ID that coincides with the Rally portfolio item object ID.
Retrieve the Agile Central Object ID for the Initiative from AC/Rally.
If you are not planning on moving the iteration, you can use this shortcut and use the ID pulled from the initiative URL
Go to the Initiative in Rally
Copy the Initiative ID from the URL (last ID in the URL
Recheck Synchronization
Run the Agile Central Synchronization job
Verify the initiative ID is correct in Clarity PPM
Delete the incorrectly created initiative IDs in Rally
Note:
For earlier releases such as 15.3 - 15.4.1 you may have to add Initiative ID to a project subpage (not the Agile Summary subpage)
It's not possible to edit it from the project list view in those releases
