Messaging Gateway

Issue/Introduction

The iDRAC hardware management interface in some Messaging Gateway (SMG) hardware models is able to deliver automated alert messages by relaying them through the SMG mail service. When this is configured in the iDRAC interface, however, Message Audit Logs (MAL) show the test alert messages are rejected by the downstream mail server with a "500 5.7.1 bad address" message.

Environment

Messaging Gateway

Cause

The iDRAC system is not configured to use a DNS domain name for alert sender, instead using the bracketed IP address:

[email protected][10.11.12.13]

This sender email address format, while standards compliant, is being rejected by the downstream mail server.

Resolution

This issue can be addressed by enabling "Register iDRAC on DNS" in the iDRAC Network > Common Settings.
