Issue/Introduction

When auto-scheduling a project in Clarity, a task duration is increasing from 5 days to 14 days although the ETC is only 40 hours. There is only one role on the task. The role has an availability of 8 hours and an allocation to the project team of 100%. The expectation is that the task duration remain at 5 days as the role is able to work 8 hours a day for those 5 days to complete the 40 hours. 

What is the reason for the increase in duration in this scenario?

Resolution

Autoscheduling takes into account the Max % Load of a task assignment. If the task % Load is less than 100%, the task duration will increase to give the assigned role more time to complete the assigned ETC hours (as the role is available to work less than the 8 hours a day on this task). The way to get autoschedule to schedule the task for the original 5 days would be to change the Max % Load on the assignment to 100%.
