Patch installation is failing with "This is a maintenance release. It must be applied to an existing installation." New install canceled

Issue/Introduction

When applying patch 15.8.0.1 on release 15.8 we get the error message:

Release : All supported releases with a patch

Component : CA PPM INTEGRATIONS & INSTALLATIONS

Resolution

Looks like the directory picked for the patch install, local/niku/clarity is not having the existing Clarity install.

If it's in this path, you must specify specify /local/niku/clarity as missing the slash in the beginning local/niku/clarity will create it under the folder where the patch is extracted.
