MAINFRAME MISCELLANEOUS Mainframe Operational Intelligence COMMON SERVICES FOR Z/OS

Issue/Introduction

This article explains how you can check the  Common Services Message Service Server version that is running as a started task on a zOS LPAR and is feeding metric data  to your Mainframe Operational Intelligence appliance.

Environment

Common Services Message Service Server 15.0

Resolution

You can find the z/OS Message Service Server  version in the MSS server.log file. The log files are located in the following USS directory:

${INSTALL_HOME}/cfgb/instance/messageService/logs/server.log

where INSTALL_HOME is set in the MSS hlq.CAW0OPTV(ZMSENVT) configuration member. You should also be able to see what INSTALL_HOME is set to by looking at the JES SYSOUT data set for the MSS job.

Perform a find on  "Version is:"   in the server log. You should see the following result:

WARN  [2020-02-21 18:20:35.137] [Message Service Server] - [com.ca.messagingservice.engine.MessagingServiceApplication:run:81] [main] - Version is: '1.4.6'

This would be the Message Service version that is currently running in your Message Service Started Task.
