Issue/Introduction

What is the best way to restore user written members only to a new PDS of a higher release level? And how do we backup and restore the entire file system and restore it?

FAQS PCS Ops Guide page 290.

The following format is required with the RESTORE control statement:


RESTORE [EVENT=mask] [GROUP=mask] [CPU=mask] [LIST=ONLY|YES|NO] [CLOSE=REWIND|UNLOAD] [REPLACE=YES|NO|CONFIRM]
By default, if only RESTORE is entered, all events are restored regardless of the event group name or CPU ID.

You can use the following to selectively backup and restore the MON members that they want to save.

// EXEC GSPDSU,SIZE=GSPDSU
PDS=MON,BACKUP,SEL=LIB2LST.JCL

// UPSI 001
// EXEC GSPDSU,SIZE=GSPDSU
PDS=MON,RESTORE,SEL=LIB2LST.JCL
