DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

I need to monitor PostgreSQL DB Servers, looking at your documentation https://techdocs.broadcom.com/content/broadcom/techdocs/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/it-operations-management/ca-unified-infrastructure-management-probes/GA/alphabetical-probe-articles/postgresql-postgresql-monitoring.html

Looks like there is a dedicated PostgresSQL probe (which I couldn't find) and the other option is using jdbc_response probe + postgreSQL MCS Profile but I can't find postgreSQL MCS Profile.

Environment

Release : 9.2.0 Unified Infrastructure Management
PostgreSQL version 9.0 or greater

Jdbc_response probe version 1.25 or greater

Resolution

Currently, there is no   dedicated probe to monitor the PostgreSQL database Server. By following the steps below you can enable monitoring of this SQL database by utilizing the jdbc_response probe. For
CA Unified Infrastructure Management version 8.5.1 or greater, use jdbc_response probe version 1.25 or greater. The jdbc_response probe is required for communication with the PostgreSQL instance. Find attached postgresql_mcs_templates.zip.
Note that for postgreSQL, there is one profile which combines setup and monitoring. PostgreSQL monitoring is implemented as an MCS Profile Type only. There is no Admin Console configuration.
Use the PostgreSQL profile type to monitor checkpoints for a database instance, and generate alarms and QoS metrics for the selected checkpoints. All configuration settings are in a single profile type. The alarms and QoS metrics settings appear in table format. The checkpoints the postgreSQL profile is capable of monitoring appear in the leftmost column.
Provide the following information to connect the postgreSQL profile to the PostgreSQL database:
  • Database Name
  • Host Name
where the PostgreSQL database is hosted
  • PostgreSQL
    Port
  • PostgreSQL
    User
  • PostgreSQL
    Password

Additional Information

You can use the sql_response probe to monitor a Postgresql database.

You can add postgresql as successfully queried through an ODBC connection using the Postgresql ODBC driver (Be sure to have the Postgres database driver installed)

Additional Information:

Documentation for the sql_response probe can be found here:  sql_response (SQL Response Monitoring)
