Endpoint Detection and Response

Issue/Introduction

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Symantec Endpoint Detection and Response (SEDR) portfolio. Our recent acquisition by Broadcom provides us with tremendous opportunities to expand upon the strength of our EDR capabilities. We are very excited about our future with Broadcom as we continue to invest in our partnership with you.

With the acquisition now complete, we have been able to fast track changes in our EDR portfolio, and we would like to share what is happening with you. Very soon we will begin consolidating consoles and agents within our EDR portfolio. Cloud and on-premises functions that currently are separate, now will reside on Symantec Integrated Cyber Defense Manager (ICDm) or the EDR appliance. Going forward, you will be able to utilize all EDR functionality via a single agent.

Resolution

What this means for you

There are several items associated with these changes that we would like to bring to your attention, and the steps you need to take will depend on your specific entitlement(s).

  • Symantec EDR customers can migrate to Symantec Endpoint Security Complete (SESC) to replace EDR cloud functionality at no additional license cost
  • To use the functionality in SESC, you will need to install Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 14.2 or newer, if you do not already have it
  • Agentless support no longer is available, and your new SESC entitlement will include everything you need to operate SEDR
  • If you are using the Endpoint Detection and Response Cloud (EDRC) collection agent for Mac OS, Linux or Windows, you will need to replace the Collection Service Agent (CSA) with a SEP agent.

Please note that if you are only using the on-premises EDR appliance, there will be no changes to your functionality, and regular upgrades will continue as part of your maintenance schedule. The above points relate only to your use of the SEDR Cloud console.

What you need to do next

You may begin your migration in early July and finish by late September, 2020. Your migration will need to be complete by COB PST on Oct.16, 2020. After that time, no changes can be made, and no data can be viewed. Following the mid-October date, all stored data from the legacy cloud console will be securely destroyed, and the features will be shut down by Oct. 31. If you have not received provisioning details  for Symantec Endpoint Security Complete (SESC), please contact your reseller, distributor or account team for assistance.

Our commitment to you

We are dedicated to arming your security teams with a full arsenal of analytics and investigation tools to detect malware and remediate attacks as threats continue to evolve. These changes will provide you with a more robust EDR capability while enabling full visibility across multiple operating systems. Our goal is to simplify your user experience and help you to more easily integrate with other Symantec Endpoint use cases.
