Issue/Introduction

The SEP (Symantec Endpoint Protection) Linux system tray icon may not appear immediately after installation. It does appear after restart or logoff/login, or if run manually via /opt/Symanec/symantec_antivirus/savtray command line.

Cause

This behavior is due to limitations when using sni-qt to display the savtray icon; it is not possible to launch savtray under installer's root context in those circumstances.

Environment

SEP for Linux

Resolution

The savtray icon will automaticall appear after restarting the system or after logoff/login.

Or you may manually launch savtray immediately after installation—run the following command as currently logged in user (do not use sudo):

"/opt/Symanec/symantec_antivirus/savtray &"

The trailing ampersand above will run savtray as a background process so it will not quit if you closed terminal window.
