Issue/Introduction

Identity Manager (IM) allows administrators to restrict the set of languages available to users in the login and console dropdown menus. This is achieved by modifying the localized resource bundles within the application's configuration directory.

Environment

Identity Manager

Cause

By default, the Identity Manager User Console references a global languages.properties file that includes all supported localizations. Modifying this file manually filters the options presented to the web browser.

Resolution

To limit the languages displayed in the selection dropdown, follow these steps:

  1. Locate Configuration File:
    • Navigate to the following directory on the Identity Manager server: iam_im.ear\custom\resourceBundles\
    • Locate the file named languages.properties.
  2. Backup File: Create a backup copy of languages.properties before making any changes.
  3. Edit Properties:
    • Open languages.properties in a text editor.
    • To remove a language, either delete the corresponding line or comment it out by adding a # at the beginning of the line.
    • Example: To remove French, change fr=French to #fr=French.
  4. Save and Restart:
    • Save the file.
    • Restart the Identity Manager (Wildfly/JBoss) service to apply the changes.
