Issue/Introduction

The on-premise appliance is failing to perform LDAP synchronization tasks.  The expected tasks may include:
  • Adding new users
  • Re-enabling returning users
  • Disabling users that no longer need access to Rally

When viewing the LDAP synchronization log, the following error may be observed:
ERROR -- : Mar 23 2020 21:43:51 ERROR: Error connecting to LDAP:
Validation error: Subscription.maxUsers the value has exceeded the maximum value of 1,190
Here the value of 1190 is actually the number of users activated in Rally and is not the number of seats in the license.

Environment

Release : 2018.1

Component : AGILE CENTRAL ON PREMISES

Cause

The error message in this case can be misleading due to mentioning "Error connecting to LDAP".  This is not an issue with contacting the LDAP server.
This can happen when the license count on the appliance is exceeded.  The LDAP synchronization scripts encounter the unexpected error and subsequently fail to process any additional updates within Rally.

Resolution

To resolve this, disable enough users in the Rally user admin page to lower the number of active users below the license limit.
