Best practices for SCRATCHRELIST and DLM

Issue/Introduction

'We are nearing to tape media storage shortage. So reviewed all the space related parms on both CA-1 TMS and DLm hardware. We found that we are running SCRATCHRELIST as monthly once and  SCRATCHLIST on a daily basis. When SCRATCHRELIST runs and it's subsequent DLm cleanup always releases huge space than SCRATCHLIST.  What is reason for it ?? and what is the best  practices for running SCRATCHRELIST?? Please let me know. Thanks.

Resolution

24 hours grace period in DLM prevents tapes from being deleted when scratched by TMSCLEAN SCRATCHRELIST.
Run TMSCLEAN SCRATCHRELIST after this grace period to get them deleted in DLM.
