Issue/Introduction

Setup environment:

The following tests were run by installing GSS 3.X on a Windows 10 Enterprise machine with SQL Express in a workgroup environment. It was possible to install the product and the basic functions were operable.

Resolution

Results:

The performance was generally poor for running tasks on multiple computers and some of the more resource intensive tasks also performed poorly. While executing the tests the computer’s processor was fully utilized and was unresponsive to other tasks.
The following tests were run:

Task	Result
Non imaging tasks Such as Copy File and Run Script task	Copy File to transfer 1 GB file was successful only on up to 3 client computers. The console was non responsive during the execution of the tasks. No issues were observed while executing a Run Script task to launch notepad.exe.
BDC package creation	Significantly poor performance.
PXE package creation	Significantly poor performance.
Imaging tasks	Significantly poor performance.
Imaging using Ghost Cast Server (Multicasting)	Significantly poor performance.

Recommendation:

Due to performance issues, Symantec generally does not recommend installing GSS 3.X on a workstation. It is likely that issues will arise from this configuration and Symantec will not be able to provide support unless the same issue can be recreated on a system installed with a server OS.
