Introduction

This document contains details about the analysis done for GSS 3.2 RU5 functionality when the SMB v1 protocol is disabled on the GSS server and client computers.
Environment Details
Following are the environment details on which analysis was conducted.

  • GSS 3.2 RU5 Server: Installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 (All components installed on the same server)
  • SQL Server: SQL ENT Server 2016
  • GSS Clients: Windows 7 Enterprise and RHEL 7.1
  • SMB v1 is OFF and SMB v2 is ON on the GSS server and on the client computers. To verfiy the SMBv1 status, use the following PowerShell command:
    • Get-SmbServerConfiguration
  • Domain details: GSS server and clients computers in the domain and domain user context is used for analysis.

Linux Issue found: All jobs related to mount operation will fail i.e. Create Image, Deploy image.

Enabled SMBv1 through PowerShell command.

Conclusion:

  • When SMB v1 is disabled and SMB v2 enabled on the GSS Server and clients, it is observed that the above listed tasks executed successfully and no issues were observed. 
  • For Linux client, Create Image and Deploy Image tasks do not work in case SMBv1 Disabled on the GSS Server.
