Patch Management Solution for Windows

The patch management metadata for Windows release 7.3 contains enhancements and fixed issues for Patch Management Solution.

The Import Patch Data for Windows task will automatically use the 7.3 metadata that is now available at the following default package location:

The 7.3 release introduces the following enhancements in the deployment of software updates:

  • Software updates are successfully deployed even if the Windows Task Scheduler service is stopped or disabled during the deployment process.
  • The enhanced process of deployment file preparation requires less hard disc space.
    • Software update files stay in the Cache folder at C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\ Agents\Software Management\Software Delivery\{Package GUID}\Cache\
The files are not copied to the Sandbox folder at C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Patch\InstallationSandbox#<EXECUTION_TIME>\
The files are taken for execution directly from the Cache folder.
    • The auxiliary deployment files required for software update deployment are stored in the Staging folder at C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Patch\staging instead of the Cache folder, and then copied to the Sandbox folder for execution.
    • The actual deployment execution occurs in the Sandbox folder. When the deployment of a software update is completed, the execution files are stored in the Sandbox folder for 5 days until the deployment of the next update, and then the files are deleted.
  • The 7.3 release fixes issues that may occur while Windows system assessment scan runs on Microsoft Windows Server Evaluations.

The 7.3 release does not change the way the assessment scan tool works.
