Issue/Introduction

Due to changes made by Microsoft in newer versions of Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019 a user may be required to authenticate first-factor twice (once from the RDP client and once at the Windows login screen) before receiving the VIP security code prompt.

Resolution

A hotfix for the Microsoft Credential Provider (MCP) integration has been released to resolve this issue. The updated DLL file can be downloaded below.

Windows 10/Windows Server 2019

  1. Login as Administrator
  2. Rename SymantecCredentialProvider8.dll in C:\windows\system32
  3. Copy the new SymantecCredentialProvider8.dll to C:\windows\system32
  4. Reboot

If the issue persists, an administrator can edit the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\CP\Options system registry entry. Ensure that for RDPShowConsolevalue the Value Data is set to 0.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\CP\Options
Value Name: RDPShowConsole
Value Data: 0
