Issue/Introduction

Due to changes made by Microsoft in newer versions of Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019\2022 a user may be required to authenticate first-factor twice (once from the RDP client and once at the Windows login screen) before receiving the VIP security code prompt.

Resolution

  • Upgrade to Microsoft Credential Provider (MCP) integration version 1.4 or later.
  • Open the Windows system registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\CP\Options.
  • Change the value of RDPShowConsole value from 1 to 0.
  • Reboot the server.

Note: For older versions, an updated DLL hotfix file can be downloaded below. Do not use with version 1.4 or later.

Windows 10/Windows Server 2019/2022

  1. Login as Administrator
  2. Rename SymantecCredentialProvider8.dll in C:\windows\system32
  3. Copy the new SymantecCredentialProvider8.dll to C:\windows\system32
  4. Reboot
