Issue/Introduction

If a user uses the Close option (the X button at the top of the screen) to close an RDP session that was authenticated using Microsoft Credential Provider on a Windows Server 2019 or Windows 10 environment, the session will close properly. However, the user receives a The user name or password or VIP Authentication is incorrect error whenever the user attempts to log in again. Clicking OK on this error screen allows the user to re-enter the same credentials and the user is allowed access.

Resolution

To avoid this issue, inform your users to properly Sign Out of the RDP session by clicking the lower left of the screen. They should not use the Close or X option.

Optionally, the VIP administrator can edit the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\CP\Options system registry entry. For the RDPShowConsolevalue, set Value Data to 1:
