Issue/Introduction

DLP Enforce appliances appear as follows:

  • Disconnected with a license expired error
  • Unable to configure options such as trial mode, or request/response filtering options.
  • The option to add a server from the DLP Enforce console is grayed out for the type of server you're attempting to add. 

Environment

Symantec DLP licenses come in two forms.

  • Symantec License Files (SLF)
  • Appliance or Virtual Appliance Licenses (BCL)

Resolution

Where to obtain the license

The .bcl (appliance)  file can be obtained from the customer portal at support.broadcom.com

  1. Click on 'Symantec Enterprise Security'
  2. Click on 'My Entitlements'
  3. Follow Logon Prompts
  4. Input the appliance Serial number where prompted and click search.
  5. Expand the link(s) under 'My Entitlements' until you find the product for which the license is needed.
  6. Click the ribbon icon under the 'License' column
    • If no entitlement is found, please contact customer care.
  7. For some appliances, you may be prompted to enter a passphrase at this time.(This is required for the DLP Virtual Appliance for Developer Apps)

 

The .slf file can be obtained from the customer portal at support.broadcom.com

  1. Click on 'Symantec Enterprise Security'.
  2. Click on 'Product Downloads'.
  3. Follow Logon Prompts.
  4. Select  Data Loss Prevention Network Prevent for Web Virtual Appliance.
  5. Select Version and Language. If language is not applicable to the release then the menu will default to English.
  6. Click on Data Loss Prevention Network Prevent for Web Virtual Appliance again.
  7. Search for 'Symantec_DLPWVAP'. The appropriate license, including the version, should be displayed. 

 

Applying the Enforce license file (.slf)

  1.  From the Enforce Console navigate to System -> Settings -> General.
  2.  Click 'Configure' .
  3.  Click 'choose file' in the licensing section.
  4.  Browse to the newly acquired .slf file and choose 'open'


Applying the Appliance license file .bcl

  1.  Open the .bcl file in a text editor.
  2.  Copy the contents of the .bcl file to the clipboard.  
  3.  SSH into your appliance.
  4.  Enter enable mode.
  5.  Enter the following.
    licensing inline <passphrase>
    Where passphrase is the passphrase that was generated when you obtained the .bcl file.

Additional Information

If you receive the following error while importing a bcl file, sure your passphrase was entered correctly. if the problem persists, contact Broadcom support:
