Issue/Introduction

You want to know if Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) can detect threats that are encoded in base64.

Resolution

Protection Engine will only decode base64 encoded content if it is a MIME encoded attachment on a .eml formatted email message. It will not decode standalone base64 encoded files or text.
