Remote indexer installation completes but generates an error log with error "The system cannot find the file specified"

Issue/Introduction

You are attempting to install the v14.6 Remote Indexer using the  ProtectInstaller64_14.6.exe which completes but you notice after that a file called error.log is created in the same folder where you ran the ProtectInstaller64_14.6.exe from which contains an error.

Resolution

  1. Create the installation folder path to the missing file which is shown in your error log as follows “D:\SymantecDLP\Protect\install\temp\visualstudio2005_8.0.50727.6195\”

  2. Download the missing file from here https://download.microsoft.com/download/8/B/4/8B42259F-5D70-43F4-AC2E-4B208FD8D66A/vcredist_x64.EXE and place it in that visualstudio2005_8.0.50727.6195 folder.

  3. Run the ProtectInstaller64_14.6

  4. Click Next

  5. Click “I accept the agreement” and click Next

  6. Select Indexer and click Next

  7. Now at the Select Destination Directory enter the path: D:\SymantecDLP and when it prompt you to say it already exists click okay and Click Next

  8. Click Next Again

  9. For System Account select whichever you prefer and click Next

  10. Click Next
