Issue/Introduction

When an endpoint workstation attempts to send an outgoing email through Outlook with a large Excel file attached, the user experiences a delay of 30-60 seconds.

Cause

A complex policy (with multiple rules) is causing the scanning of large attachments to take a substantially longer time than it would otherwise.

Environment

Symantec Data Loss Prevention Endpoint agent workstations (all versions) that are setup to monitor Outlook

 

Resolution

Simplify policies that are used by these workstations to minimize the amount of separate rules in each policy. This will decrease the amount of time that the scanning will take.
