Endpoint Protection

Issue/Introduction

You want to know whether Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) supports the use of Azure File Sync / CloudFiles by Microsoft. CloudFiles creates a generic file system filter that allows cloud file providers to easily manage files and their hydration state in the cloud.

CloudFiles was introduced with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

Environment

Files with the following attributes:
FILE_ATTRIBUTE_RECALL_ON_DATA_ACCESS
FILE_ATTRIBUTE_RECALL_ON_DATA_OPEN

Resolution

Symantec Endpoint Protection supports CloudFiles with one exception. If you install Symantec Endpoint Protection and then view the properties of your remote file, the remote file downloads from the cloud to your local disk. Without Symantec Endpoint Protection installed, this file hydration does not occur.

CloudFiles was tested for use with Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.0.1 and above.
