Issue/Introduction

DocumentNotSupportedException errors are seen in the FileReader logs of a Detection Server, and the FileReader may restart as a result.

Line XXXX: SEVERE: [XXXX] DocumentNotSupportedException caught in SubmitCERequest function, Exception thrown from : RequestManager.cpp(XXX) SubFileExtractorImpl.cpp XX

Cause

Occasionally, through the normal operation of a Detection Server which utilizes the FileReader process, a DocumentNotSupportedException can be thrown and the FileReader may restart as a result.  This may occur whenever FileReader encounters a file that it is not able to identify.

Resolution

The DocumentNotSupportedException is not an issue under normal circumstances.  If an environment is encountering so many exceptions that the FileReader is not able to process any data, review of policies and detected files may be necessary to determine why this is occurring and proper steps can be taken to add necessary resources or exclusions.
