Issue/Introduction

Unable to deploy ghost image on the client machine

Ghostwarning logs contains the following error message:

Error Number: 10100
Message: Invalid switch: dscrypt

Version: 12.0.0.4573(Jun 28 2013, Build=4573
OS Version: Professional (Build 9200)
Command line arguments: -batch -sure -clone,mode=restore,dst=1,src=https://paldep01.openwork.local:443/images/ltmastersysprep21012014.gho -dscrypt

Cause

it looks like  ghost64.exe is running on version 4573 which is not compatible  -dscrypt switch.

Resolution

According to the logs we saw the the ghost64.exe is running on version 4573 which is not compatible  -dscrypt switch.

In DS 7.5  SP1 HF5 we have the ghost version 12.0.0.6279 which is compatible with this switch. It seems like after upgrading the Server to Hotifx 5 the Ghost version is upgraded properly on the server but its not updated proerly in the preboot OS (boot.wim).

We also noticed on the NS/NBS server still we have the odler version of the ghost executable in below location, which explains why whenener we are creating new preboot or  regenerating existing preboot environments they have the old ghost files.

C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\SBS\Bootwiz\{374E1C49-4F58-4F5C-8D51-07A30F0D44AD}\cache\bootwiz\oem\DS\winpe\x64\Base\Program Files\Symantec\Deployment\ghost

We replaced the new ghost version files to the above location and then regegerated the preboot OS. This allowed the preboot OS to be updated with the correct ghost version files that supports the dscrypt switch..
