Data Connector import rules will provide a preset list of available resource lookup keys based on the selected resource type. For example, the Computer resource type includes the following out of box resource lookup keys: Barcode, Computer Name/Domain, MAC Address, Resource GUID, Resource Name, Serial Number, System Number, TCP/IP Address. The user can add to this (but out of box resource lookup keys cannot be removed) by creating a custom resource lookup key. The following instructions describe how to do this.

  1. In a Symantec Management Platform Console, click on the Settings button > All Settings.
  2. Click on to expand the folders Notification Server > Connector > Resource Lookup Keys.
  3. Right click on the folder Resource Lookup Keys > New > Resource Lookup Key.
  4. Click on the New Resource Lookup Key name and change this to a new name. For example "Computer Comment".
  5. Click on the "Target resource type" drop-down list and select the resource type to use, for example, Computer.
  6. Click on the "Select a data class" link.
  7. Click on the Group drop-down list and locate and select the data class to use. For example, General Data Classes > Comment. Notes: (1) Data classes that are not part of the resource type are not able to be selected. For example, User Email, a User resource type data class, cannot be used for the Computer resource type. (2) Either an out of box or custom data class for the resource type can be selected here.
  8. Click on the OK button.
  9. Click on the "Save changes" button.

In any Data Connector import rule, new or old, that use the resource type from step 5, in its "Resource lookup key" drop-down list, the new resource lookup key is now available for use. WARNING: If a data class is used, from step 7, that contains duplicate or non-unique data, records or rows will be skipped during the import as the import rule will be unable to match up the correct record to create or update. The user should therefore be careful in creating a custom resource lookup key and ensure that whatever data class is used meets these requirements.
