Deployment Solution 7.1 SP2 MP1 Rollup Version 5 Release Notes
This document contains the following topics:
ITMS 7.1 SP2 MP1.1 is required before installing the DS 7.1 SP2 MP1 Rollup v5. If you have not upgraded to ITMS 7.1 SP2 MP1.1 yet, please review the information contained in TECH197966 “Upgrading to ITMS 7.1 SP2 – MP1.1 – Best Practices”.
Note: If you are not sure what the difference is between the MP1 and MP1.1 releases: MP1.1 was released a few weeks after MP1 to address a stored procedure issue that required additional rights to execute.

This DS 7.1 SP2 MP1 Rollup version 5 contains point fixes that were not part of the regular ITMS 7.1 SP2 MP1 release, plus the fixes already provided with Rollup version 3 and 4.

DS 7.1 SP2 MP1 Rollup v5 includes a list of fixes for
Important: Do not open the C:\windows\assembly\gac_msil\ folder in Windows Explorer for .dll files that you are trying to install. This could cause the .dll file to disappear..
Installation Prerequisite: Deployment Solution 7.1 SP2 MP1
This rollup introduces a new Deployment Solution version: 7.1.7860.
1. Extract the files contained on this ‘DS7_1_SP2_MP1_Rollup_v5_June10_2013.zip’ onto the Notification Server hard drive.
Important: Do not extract the rollup binaries to the Altiris folder.
2. Open the DS folder.
3. Right click Install and select Run as Administrator.
Note: This installation RESTARTS Altiris Services and Web Services.
Information about the rollup version will be placed into the registry (under HKLM>SOFTWARE>ALTIRIS>POINTFIXES).
4. After extracting the files from the .zip file.copy the DS folder with its content to the Remote Site Server computer.
5. On the Remote Site Server computer, right click RemoteSiteInstall and select Run as Administrator.
Note: This installation RESTARTS Altiris Services and Web Services.
Information about the rollup version will be placed into the registry of the remote site server (under HKLM>SOFTWARE>ALTIRIS>POINTFIXES).
Note: Follow the Deployment Plug-in upgrade steps for all upgrade scenarios:
1. For 32 bit client computers: In the Symantec Management Console, go to Settings-> All Settings > Agents/ Plug-ins > Deployment and Migration > Windows(x86) > Deployment Plug-in Upgrade.
2. For 64-bit client computers: In the Symantec Management Console, go to Settings-> All Settings > Agents/ Plug-ins > Deployment and Migration > Windows(x64) > Deployment Plug-in Upgrade.
3. Do a policy rollout to Windows-based clients. The Deployment Agent is upgraded upon policy receipt.
Note: The Deployment Agent version is 7.1.7860.
Note: Follow the Deployment Automation folder installation steps for all upgrade scenarios:
1. On the Notification Server computer, go to “C:\ProgramFile\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\Deployment\Automation\PEInstall_x86”
2. Delete PEInstall_x86.exe from the ‘PEInstall_x86’ folder.
3. Delete PEInstall_x64.exe from “C:\ProgramFile\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Win64\X64\Deployment\Automation\ PEInstall_x64”.
4. Open the Symantec Management Console and go to Settings > Deployment > Create Preboot Configurations.
5. Select the existing PEInstall Preboot Configurations.
6. Click Recreate Preboot Environment but do not click Save Changes.
7. This launches Bootwiz.exe (we can see this in Task Manager on NS machine). It will
recreate PEInstall_x86.exe and PEInstall_x64.exe in the respective folders on the Notification Server computer. The new DLL will be used for this new preboot.
Note: Once automation folders are updated in Notification Server and on all the Package Servers, you can uninstall your current automation folders and reinstall new ones via the Deployment Automation Folder for Windows (x86)\(x64) Install policy.
To uninstall Deployment Solution provided with this Rollup:
1. In the Notification Server’s Deployment Solution v5 folder, right click RevertToMP1 and select Run as Administrator. This will uninstall the DS 7.1 SP2 MP1 Rollup v5 on the Notification Server computer.
Note: This uninstallation RESTARTS Altiris Services and Web Services.
2. On Remote Site Servers, go to the Deployment Solution v5 folder.
3. Right click RemoteSiteRevertToMP1 and select Run as Administrator
This will uninstall the DS Rollup V5 on the Remote site server computer.
Note: This uninstallation RESTARTS Altiris Services and Web Services.
To uninstall the updated Deployment Solution Agents provided with this Rollup:
For a 32-bit client computer:
1. In the Symantec Management Console, go to Settings-> All Settings > Agents/ Plug-ins > Deployment and Migration> Windows(x86).
2. Enable the Uninstall policy for the Deployment Plug-in.
3. Schedule the Install policy to get the default Agent versions installed on clients.
For a 64-bit client computer:
1. In the Symantec Management Console, go to Settings-> All Settings > Agents/ Plug-ins > Deployment and Migration> Windows(x64).
2. Enable the Uninstall policy for the Deployment plug-in.
3. Schedule the Install policy to get the default Agent versions installed on clients.
To uninstall the updated Deployment Automation Folder provided with this Rollup:
1. On the Notification Server computer, go to
C:\ProgramFile\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\Deployment\ Automation\PEInstall_x86
2. Delete the PEInstall_x86.exe file from the PEInstall_x86 folder.
3. Delete the PEInstall_x64.exe file from C:\ProgramFile\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Win64\X64\Deployment\Automation\ PEInstall_x64
4. Open the Symantec Management Console and go to Settings > Deployment > Create Preboot Configurations.
5. Select the existing PEInstall Preboot Configurations.
6. Click Recreate Preboot Environment but do not click Save Changes.
