Instructions for Obtaining iOS Device Debug Logs

Option 1:  iPhone Configuration Utility

  1. Download and install Apple's iPhone Configuration Utility application

  2. Run the iPhone Configuration Utility and connect the iOS device to the computer via the USB cable

  3. Under the Devices pane, select the connected iOS device, then choose the Console tab

  4. While leaving the utility running, perform the actions on the iOS device which are observed as problematic. This will cause debug output of the actions to be captured in the utility's Console

  5. Once the problematic behavior has been reproduced on the iOS device, in the bottom right-hand corner of the utility, choose Save Console As… , and save the log to any location

  6. Once the log has been saved, provide the Support team with the log file for review

Option 2:  Xcode  (requires a Mac computer)

  1. On a Mac OS X computer, install Xcode from the Apple App Store

Note:  The Xcode installer is greater than a gigabyte in size, so it will take quite some time to download

  2. Run Xcode from the Applications folder in the system Dock

  3. Connect the iOS device to the Mac computer via the USB cable

Note:  If iTunes was opened automatically, or was already running, from the menu bar choose iTunes > Quit iTunes, or Command + Q

  4. The Xcode Organizer window should automatically appear. If it does not, from the menu bar choose:  Window > Organizer

  5. In the Organizer window, the iOS device should appear in the left-hand pane. Underneath the iOS device, choose Console

  6. While leaving Xcode running, perform the actions on the iOS device which are observed as problematic. This will cause debug output of the actions to be captured in the Xcode Console

  7. Once the problematic behavior has been reproduced on the iOS device, in the bottom right-hand corner of the Xcode Organizer window, choose Save Log As… , and save the log to any location

  8. Once the log has been saved, provide the Support team with the log file for review

Option 3:  System Console app  (alternative means when options 1 & 2 are not available)

  1. On the iOS device experiencing the issue, install the System Console app from the Apple App Store

  2. Perform the actions on the iOS device which are observed as problematic

  3. Open the System Console app, and in the upper right-hand corner choose the export button, choose Quick Look Log, then your preferred means of transport (Mail app, Copy [to clipboard], or 3rd party app that may be listed as an option)

  4. Via the means chosen above, provide the Support team with the log file data for review
