Issue/Introduction

How do you exclude packages being sent to a computer that has low disk space on the hard drive?

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Resolution

Currently there are a couple of ways to ensure that packages are not sent to a computer with lower than 500 MB free disk space.

  1. Look at the registry setting “Min Disk Free Space.” This can be found in the registry at
    \\My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Communications\Package Delivery\Min Disk Free Space (Mbytes).
As a default, this is set to (500). Change this to the desired MB size and clients won’t download to any computer without the specific size free.
  2. Also, a filter can be created on any target to check for computers with more than 500 MB free. This can be done by creating a new filter (Creating or modifying a filter) and use "Inv_AeX_HW_Disk Space_Usage" table as your primary validation element.

With our ITMS 8.7.3 Release, you can use "Package Server Health" (See KB 382014 for additional details):
Administrators can now see the amount of disk usage and free disk space on each package server within the ITMS console. Previously, this functionality was only available by remotely logging in to each package server to view such information.
