The version of Symantec Installation Manager that ships with the IT Management Suite 7.1 SP2 MP1 release contains a number of new features:
Reduced download size |
Through the consolidation of .msi files, the IT Management Suite download size has been reduced by over 1GB. This improves the speed and the reliability of the installation by reducing the number of failure points. |
Added environmental checks |
Added additional environmental checks were implemented to ensure that your system is ready for the installation/upgrade. For example, SIM checks to see whether a server is in a hierarchy and prevents you from installing products on a child Notification Server that cannot be installed there. |
New name for PL |
The name of the product listing (PL) file is now symantec_v2.pl.xml. (The old name was symantec.pl.xml) |
Faster upgrade process |
Before it performs an upgrade, Symantec Installation Manager automatically deletes \Bad folders and files in the EvtInbox, EvtQFast, EvtQLarge,EvtQPriority, EvtQSlow and EvtQueue folders under C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\NSCap. This speeds up the upgrade process. |
New hot fix page |
A new product hot fix installation page was added. |
Improved upgrade interface |
An easier-to-use upgrade interface was implemented that automatically identifies compatible product versions to install and uninstall during an upgrade. |
Integrated Technical Resource Kit |
The Technical Resource Kit is accessible from the Installation Readiness Check page or online at http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO77027 . The kit contains tools, utilities, and documentation to enable you to more effectively troubleshoot, plan resources, and manage the product. |
