Issue/Introduction

How can I open the SMP Console from a remote computer?

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Resolution

The remote computer must be able to locate the computer that SMP Server is installed on on the network.  The remote computer may require a VPN connection or other method to connect to the network where the SMP Server computer is located.

Open Internet Explorer on the remote computer.

To open the Symantec Management Console (SMP Console) enter one of the following URLs in the Address field:

  • http://NSSERVERNAME/Altiris/Console/ (Where NSSERVERNAME is the DNS name of the Notification Server.)
  • http://IP_ADDRESS/Altiris/Console/ (Where IP_ADDRESS is the IP address for the Notification Server.)

Note: If your SMP Console uses SSL, you will need to modify the URL to use HTTPS instead of HTTP. A valid certificate will be needed.

Before the SMP Console is opened, an authentication window may appear that requires credentials to connect to the SMP Server computer.  Enter a user name (you may need to use domain or computer\username format) and password that has the permissions to access the SMP Server features you want to use and click OK.  The SMP Console will open.
