Errors in the Notification Server logs show "General network error"

Question
There are several Networking type errors in the logs. What can I do to remedy the issue?

The logs may show any of the following:

  • Reason: General network error. Check your network documentation.
  • Type=System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException Msg=General network error. Check your network documentation. Src=.Net SqlClient Data Provider
  • Reason: Failed to load inventory. [General network error. Check your network documentation.]
  • Msg=General network error. Check your network documentation. Src=.Net SqlClient Data Provider
  • Failure in DataClass.GetHashString(Guid). Details: Exception Message='General network error. Check your network documentation.'

Answer
First thing to do would be to restart the Altiris Service. If this is not successful, then restart SQL services, followed by the Altiris Service.
