How to bypass content filtering rule(s) for white listed (good) senders.

You have created a number of local good senders within the Symantec Messaging Gateway the messages are still being caught by policies.  You are wanting to ensure these messages come through regardless of spam or content.


You have a Symantec Messaging Gateway version 9.x deployed within your network that inbound email passes through.

You have added Email addresses or Domains to the Local good senders group.


The Symantec Messaging Gateway Local good senders group by default will bypass scanning of spam message and deliver the messages normal by default.  Therefore content and virus scanning of the messages is still performed.

The Symantec Messaging Gateway Administration Guide 9.5 discusses the bypass options on page 858. 

Table 8-1 starting on page 859 shows the verdicts and actions taken on given messages.


To create a bypass of content policies for the local good senders group perform the following. 

(**Please Note:  Applying a bypass of any or all rules for local senders may will apply to all email addresses and domains listed.  This may open issues for spoofed messages to your domain. **)

In the Messaging Gateway Control Center click the Reputation button

On the Left Side Click the Good Senders under “Policies"

On the right select the "Local Good Senders Domains" hyperlink

Once you have verified that the domains and email addresses listed here are the ones you are wanting to bypass content filtering, select the “ADD” button under the Actions area.

In the "First" Drop down Select Bypass Content Filtering Policy. 

In the "Second" drop down select the Policy you wish to bypass.  You may also select all.  If you wish to add multiple policies but not all you will need to add each of them individually.

Click the Add Action


Once all Actions have been added click the save button in the Good Senders Group.
