Due to inability of a computer to contact the Notification Server, a remote zero footprint Inventory is needed. How do I do this?
It is possible to perform a zero footprint using multiple methods such as via a Web page or floppy disk. No method for doing so with a USB device is currently documented. It is not difficult to do this, however, by using the AexWebInvPkg.exe file used with the zero footprint Web inventory.
To configure this file to save output locally, you will need to edit the file using the Package editor. You can do so by changing how the collector runs in this file. This can be changed by using the editor located at:
You will then need to change the line for collector to:
aexnsinvcollector.exe /hidden /o \NSEFILE /useguid
This will save the Inventory NSE file to a local folder at \NSEFILE on the client you run the inventory on.
Copy this file AeXWebInvPkg.exe to the USB device and run it from that location on the desired computer. You will then want to copy the \NSEFILE folder from the client computer back to the USB device.
To transfer this data to the Notification Server, copy the NSE files from the \NSEFILE to the following location on the Notification Server:
You should now have data for the computer you ran the zero footprint inventory on.
