Question
When accessing pages in the Altiris console, why am I prompted to login?

Answer
This is a feature of Internet Explorer* and can be caused by the site not being listed as a trusted site or by having the option Automatic login only in Intranet Zone. Note: This is not caused by Altiris or any of its products. Altiris does not prompt for network credentials. Please contact your network Administrator for assistance if you are unable to connect using the UNC path to the server, as this would be a browser and/or network-related issue.

This issue may start after previously having been able to access Altiris successfully. This can happen if the user has changed browser security settings, or if a network administrator has changed group policies, thereby forcing the browser security to now change.

If you are trying to access a site by either IP or Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), Internet Explorer will force this to work as if it were an Internet site. Because of this, it will need to be added as a Trusted site. To do this:

  • Open an Internet Explorer browser window.
  • Click on Tools in the menu bar.
  • Select Internet Options.
  • Select the Security tab.
  • Click on the Trusted Sites icon and select the Sites button below it.
  • Add the FQDN or IP address; the site should now be accessible.

Additional Troubleshooting

  • The user profile being used may be corrupted in Windows. If this does not happen on a different computer when the user logs in with their account there, remove and re-create the user's profile on the original computer.
  • Try also removing the Internet Explorer's cache and cooky files.

Note: This is an environment issue and is not caused by Altiris or any Altiris products. Altiris never prompts for network credentials. For additional information, please refer to your network administrator.
