Enabling a Full Dump creation for the Symantec Management Agent 7.x

Issue/Introduction

For troubleshooting issues with the Symantec Management Agent, there is a new functionality that should allow the creation of a mini-dump in the event of an unhandled exception on the Symantec Management Agent.

Environment

ITMS 7.x, 8.x

Resolution

In order to enable this functionality with the Symantec Management Agent 7.1 version and later, please do the following:

1. Under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Diagnostics], create the following regkeys as DWORD (if not present already):
      a) "enableDumpCreation" and set it to 1   (this is the default key already present)
      b) "miniDumpType" and set it to 2


Dumps are saved in different locations. Depending on the Windows version and the Altiris agent version

  • C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Agent\CrashDumps\
  • C:\users\public\public documents\altiris\altiris agent 
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Altiris\Altiris Agent
