After applying Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Notification Server, including the hotfix released for package servers (article 17613), many package servers and clients could not download software. How can this be resolved?
After viewing article 4295, it was found that the default settings in the coresettings.config file for MaxConcurrentConfigRequests is set to 10 by default, with the installation of SP3. The default for SP2 was 50. Also with SP3 a new registry key was created: MaxConcurrentPackageInfoRequests. This setting is also set to 10 by default.
Only the MaxConcurrentConfigRequests can be modifed by using a text editor, such as Notepad, or preferably the NS Configurator tool. With the current version of NS Configurator, that shipped with SP3, MaxConcurrentPackageInfoRequests can only be modifed by using a text editor, such as Notepad.
Once both settings were increased to 50, this issue was resolved.
Note: Changing the settings to 50 for an extended period of time, could cause error messages regarding heavy use, or SQL deadlocks.
