Answer
There are several different scenarios, and a different error page is displayed for each.
When attempting to access the Symantec Management Console (SMC), the user is prompted for username and password.
Then:
- If the username is not associated with any security role (and password is correct or incorrect) then
- the user is prompted a 2nd & a 3rd time,
- and then a web page is displayed stating:
- You are not authorized to view this page
- and, further down:
- HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials
Internet Information Services (IIS)
- If the user name is associated with a security role and the password is incorrect, then
- the user is prompted a 2nd & a 3rd time,
- and then a web page is displayed stating:
- 'Server Error in '/Altiris/Console' Application.'
- and, further down:
- Error message 401.2.: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration. Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authentication methods enabled on the Web server. Contact the Web server's administrator for additional assistance.
- If the user name is associated with a security role; the password is correct, but the roles does not have permissions to view any console menu items, then:
- after the first prompt, a web page is displayed stating:
- Access Denied
You currently do not have sufficient network access rights to the Notification Server console.
