Question
How do I figure out what a specific error code in the Notification Server logs means?

Answer
All Notification Server error codes -214 are error codes right out of winerror.h and can be determined by converting to a hex.How to Convert the -214 error to Heximal:

  1. Go to Start > Run and type "calc" (or otherwise bring up the calculator). Click OK.
  2. Make sure that the scientific view is selected.
  3. With decimal selected, enter in 2147023108, click the +/- key to make it negative.
  4. Now click on the Hex radial to convert the Decimal value to Hexadecimal. The result should be FFFFFFFF 800706FC.
  5. Now that you know the hexadecimal value for the error (0x800706FC) you can use an Internet search or Microsoft sites to identify its meaning.

Using these steps, we get the following for each of your status:

Push Initiation Status(-2147023108); - (0x800706FC) "The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed."

Searching through a search, Microsoft, or other technical Web sites for the error codes can also provide crucial information.
