Management Platform (Formerly known as Notification Server)

Administration console fails to function as expected on remote machines (that is, not local console). This does not include Notification Server security limitations, but page access problems through Internet Explorer*.

Notification Server 6.0

In most cases this is a result of incorrect Internet Explorer security settings.

To configure Internet Explorer security settings, open Internet Explorer, select the Tools menu, Internet Options, and then select the Security tab.

IE security settings are divided into four areas: Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted Sites, and Restricted Zones.

For each of these sites, there are security settings under the Custom Level button. In here are the options required to allow or disallow the downloading, initialize, script, and run ActiveX controls. Further settings relate to whether the browser will prompt the user for credentials when connecting to a site (in its zone) or automatically use the current user's credentials.

Ensure the Notification Server URL is entered in "friendly" zone (recommend Local intranet of trusted sites) and the required logon and ActiveX security options are set to automatic allow or prompt (minimum).

Note: This may also occur if the user's network login has been locked.

Why am I getting prompted for a username and password at points in the console or installing the agent?

Note: This is an environment issue and is not caused by Altiris or any Altiris products. Altiris never prompts for network credentials. For additional information, please refer to your network administrator.
